2/6/23: The Strangest Secret
Among the many lies that most of us habitually tell ourselves are negative statements like: “I can’t do it”, “It won’t work anyway”, “Other people can do that, but I can’t”, “I’m not smart enough”, “I’m too old”, “I’m too unattractive”…..etc., etc., etc. Sadly, the lies that we tell ourselves are probably the most destructive kind of all.
For many years, I’ve made it a daily practice to listen to a variety of “self development” recordings—previously on cassette tapes and CDs, and today of course on the Internet. Audio recordings are especially easy to listen to and benefit from, since you can be busy with other activities while listening. [Please continue reading more below…]
Probably the one single recording that I have listened to more often than any other is Earl Nightingale’s classic The Strangest Secret. Mr. Nightingale (1921-1989) was a remarkable man who had an insatiable desire to find the key to success—and why only about 5% of the population feel truly successful in their lives, while the other 95% do not. When he first recorded The Strangest Secret in 1956, it became a best-selling record (yes, one of those real, old-fashioned vinyl records played on a real, old-fashioned record player!). In fact, it was the first non-musical recording outside the entertainment industry to sell over a million copies.
That recording has most certainly withstood the test of time, and Mr. Nightingale’s message is just as relevant today as it was in the 1950s. Millions of people around the world are still listening to it, mostly on YouTube (where you’ll find it on many channels devoted to self-development). So, if you’d like to start off your week with a refreshing dose of wisdom and inspiration (about 30 minutes long), click over to YouTube and listen to The Strangest Secret.
